Purchasing Manager – Americas (Baton Rouge, LA)

A leading global developer, manufacturer and marketer of highly-engineered specialty chemicals is currently recruiting a leader to build a world-class specialty chemical Supply Chain organization. The Purchasing Manager – Americas will have a leadership role and will develop and execute tactics in alignment with the Global Purchasing strategy. This leader is expected to drive corporate profitability through reduction of the total cost of ownership while supporting the company’s business requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Responsible for setting the strategic direction around Category Management of MRO and associated indirect categories throughout the Americas. This involves the strategic sourcing and market analysis of categories
  • Works within corporate strategies and policy frameworks, designs, proposes and implements purchasing strategies, guidelines and procedures within broad principles set by the organization to meet requirements supporting short and long-term business needs
  • Effectively develops the supplier base and manages supply chain partner performance and relationships
  • Manages, develops and motivates subordinate staff; reviews and assesses performance, builds employee capacity, supports their professional development and enables employees to optimize their contribution to the department
  • Leads the continuous improvement, identification and implementation of best practices to drive productivity, streamline opportunities, eliminate non-value added services and control costs through the development/use of metrics around efficiency and reliability
  • Listens to and delivers results for stakeholders and in line with the organization’s Business Plan

REQUIREMENTS

  • successful in leading and managing a team of 7-10 people
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in purchasing (deep knowledge in key purchasing processes, management of tenders & contracts, etc.)
  • Strong functional knowledge of Category Management
  • Strong business acumen to effectively manage/reduce costs and anticipate market and internal opportunities
  • Data driven, strategic thinker, addresses partner and internal / external customer needs
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERP system
  • Proficient User of MS Office Suite
  • Excellent change-management skills
  • Ability to participate and lead in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to interact with multiple levels of leadership internally and externally
  • Ability to ensure acceptance by other departments within the organization (stakeholder management skills)
  • Excellent written/verbal/presentationcommunication skills
  • Experience in managing business improvement projects within a Supply Chain and Purchasing environment is a plus
  • Integration experience a plus
  • English is mandatory — other language skills a plus
